asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that very large numbers of young cows have been exported during the past six months; and whether, in view of the effect of these exports on future dairy herds, he will take steps to prohibit the export of all cows under six years of age in any condition.

The export of milch cows, in-calf cows and heifers is controlled. The number exported during the six months ended 31st October amounted to 14.3 of the total cattle exported in that period and was not abnormal.
I do not propose to limit exports on the lines suggested by the Deputy.
