Vol. 88 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Leix Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the present position of the Irish Land Commission in connection with the agitation for the acquisition and division of the Edge Estate, Milltown, Ballylinan, County Leix; the total acreage of land and the acreage under tillage during the present year; whether the lands referred to have been let by the 11 months to a grazier, and whether it is proposed to let same again for the coming year; whether a division scheme has been sanctioned in connection with these lands; and, if so, when same is likely to be put into operation.

Proceedings are in progress for the acquisition of the untenanted lands of Miltown, containing 83a. 2r. 8p., on the estate of Richard E. McKenna (formerly Miss Edge), County Leix. The price of the lands has been fixed and a scheme for their division will be prepared as soon as possible, but until this scheme has been completed and settled it will not be possible to state when the lands will be divided. Possession of the lands has not yet been taken by the Land Commission, and they have no information as to how the lands are being used at the moment by the owner.
