Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephonic Communication in West Cork.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state how many islands in West Cork are now in communication with the mainland by (a) ordinary telephone, and (b) wireless telephone; and from what exchanges do such telephones work.

Public telephone and telegraph services are provided for Bere Island and Whiddy Island by cable and for Dursey Island by open line. Bere Island works to Castletownbere telephone exchange, Whiddy to Bantry exchange and Dursey to Garnish exchange. Public telegraph service only is available at Cape Clear, Sherkin and Hare Islands, working by wireless to Baltimore Post Office.
