asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that married soldiers who are obliged to find their own homes have, in many cases, to pay rents exceeding 10/6 (the maximum rent of married quarters inside barracks); and if he will cause to be paid in such cases an allowance towards the rent of their accommodation.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Soldiers' Rent Allowance.
I am aware that the rents payable by married soldiers living outside barracks may exceed, in some cases, the maximum amount which is deducted from the marriage allowance of a soldier provided with married quarters. I regret, however, that it is not possible to pay an additional allowance in such cases towards rent.
