Vol. 88 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Seed Oats.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the delay in fixing the price of seed oats for the ensuing season is causing great difficulty in the handling by the trade of this cereal, and that in some parts of the country only inferior oats are offered for sale, resulting in a tendency by the trade to purchase inferior grain for seed purposes; and whether, in view of these considerations, he will have the price fixed at an early date.

The matter referred to in the Deputy's question is at present under consideration.

Would consideration of the question be materially affected as a result of the oats importation scheme from Canada? Is the Minister waiting to batter down the price of Irish oats?

That does not arise.

Faith, it does.

Can the Minister say when he expects to be able to make a statement about it?

I cannot promise.

As soon as the Canadian oats get here.
