Vol. 89 No. 3

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Fuel Situation.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that the fuel situation in Ashtown, Castleknock and Blackhorse Road area is very serious at the moment and that the people there are unable to obtain supplies of fuel; and whether, in view of this, he is prepared to grant a fuel merchant's licence to Mr. John Brennan, of Ashtown.

In order to meet any deficiency in the fuel supplies obtainable in the areas mentioned in the question from the existing licensed fuel merchants, the Parish Council for Blanchardstown parish was authorised early in the winter to purchase turf which is being sold through the medium of a licensed fuel merchant nominated by the council for the purpose. I am not satisfied as to the necessity for the licensing of any additional fuel merchants in the area, and inquiries addressed to the parish council in the matter have elicited the reply that the council is able to cope with the fuel situation in the parish.
