Vol. 89 No. 3

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age and Blind Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange for a temporary increase in old age and blind pensions, to meet the present greatly increased cost of living, as when these rates of pension were fixed they were calculated on a bare subsistence scale and must be far below that now.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave to a similar question of his on the 14th October last to which I have nothing to add.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, does he not know in his heart and soul that it is impossible for those poor people to exist on 10/- a week? Has the Minister anything to say to that?

I have already added considerably to what is going to necessitous persons.

If those people are not necessitous, who are? How can they live on 10/- a week?
