Vol. 89 No. 3

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Bog.

asked the Minister for Lands what is the cause of the delay in dividing up the Camlin and Power Lalor bog, Longorchard, amongst the tenants of the estate which was acquired by the Land Commission; if the Minister is aware of the great hardship imposed on the people of Moyne, Templetuohy and Loughmore, by reason of the delay; and if the Minister will see that dividing, drainage and road making are carried out as soon as possible.

As regards the Camlin bog on the Cambie estate, difficulty was encountered last year in securing sufficient local labour for development work, but if sufficient local labour is now available the Land Commission hope to be able to carry out the necessary drainage and roadmaking and to divide the greater portion of the bog at an early date.

As regards the lands of Longorchard, proceedings for acquisition by the Land Commission have been delayed in consequence of objections lodged by some of the owners, and it has not been feasible for the Land Commission to reach a decision on these objections pending the obtaining of further information as to how the lands, if acquired, might be advantageously disposed of. The Land Commission are having a draft scheme of division of the whole lands prepared in order to envisage the position as a whole. There will be no avoidable delay in the matter, but the Land Commission's operations are hampered in present circumstances by diversion of many of their staff for special emergency duties.

Do we understand from the Minister that those lands are not yet acquired?

Proceedings have been delayed. They are not yet acquired.
