Vol. 91 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Land Compensation Claim.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state what is the cause of the delay in paying compensation to Mr. James McCann, Drumsree, Rathangan, County Kildare, from whom land was acquired by the Turf Development Board in January, 1942.

It has not been found possible to make payment of compensation to Mr. McCann because of difficulties which have arisen in connection with the question of his title. Steps are being taken to overcome the difficulties that have arisen, and it is expected that payment will be made at an early date.

In view of the fact that this is a very poor man, will the Minister take some special steps to ensure that the matter is brought to a conclusion at an early date?

The amount to be paid in full and final compensation has been agreed but, obviously, the question of title must be cleared up before the money can be passed over.

Could the Minister give any indication as to when he hopes to clear the matter?

I expect to be able to do it at an early date. It may need some special measure to avoid some subsequent claim against the State in respect of the same land.

Will he be paid within a month?

I could not say that.

Do you think he will?
