Vol. 91 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Co. Meath Plot.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Owen Brady, Loughlinstown, Ratoath, County Meath, a migrant who exchanged a holding at Cloughrea, Drumcondrath, County Meath, a few years ago, had part of his new farm marked off owing to a dispute with the Land Commission; that the plot marked off was part of his tillage field where he had potatoes planted, and that as a result this plot of potatoes was lost; and if he will have this dispute inquired into so that Mr. Brady can have his present position favourably settled.

By an undertaking dated 2nd June, 1937, Mr. Owen Brady agreed to surrender a small holding of la. 2r. 6p. in the townland of Cloghmacoo in exchange for a plot of two acres in the townland of Loughlinstown. The exchange was carried out on a temporary basis, Mr. Brady being allowed to occupy the lands of Loughlinstown on signing a letting agreement to the Land Commission of the holding in Cloghmacoo. As, however, Mr. Brady refused to surrender the lands of Cloghmacoo when called upon to do so, the Land Commission were obliged to cancel the exchange and resume possession of the plot in Loughlinstown. Arrangements have not yet been made for the final disposal of this plot.

Another exchange of lands was completed by Mr. Brady on 2nd June, 1937, when he surrendered a holding in Cloghreagh containing 15a. 2r. 15p. for lands of Loughlinstown containing 19a. 3r. 30p., at present in his occupation.

I am fully informed as to the facts of these transactions and no inquiry is necessary.
