asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has yet received a communication from the Laoighis County Manager recommending an increase of 5/- per week for road workers, gangers and overseers, and also increased daily rates to carters employed by the county council concerned; and if he will sanction the increased rates being paid from the date upon which they were unanimously agreed to by the county council and the county manager.

A proposal to grant certain increases to road workers and carters employed by the Laoighis County Council was received from the county manager on the 7th instant. The matter is at present under consideration.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say whether he received the recommendation to pay the amount mentioned in the question? Did he receive a communication from the county manager recommending an extra 5s. per week?

Certain proposals have come forward from the county manager and they are at present under consideration.

I have asked the Parliamentary Secretary to state——

The Deputy might wait for the conclusion of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply.

I am waiting.

A proposal to grant certain increases reached my Department on the 7th instant. That proposal has not yet been examined. It will be examined and disposed of as similar proposals are examined and disposed of.

The Parliamentary Secretary said that certain proposals were received. I have given notice to ask him whether he received specific proposals for an increase of 5s. per week for county council workers and if he will sanction increased rates?

No, I cannot give the Deputy any further information than I have given him, that certain general proposals have reached my Department. They are under examination and will be disposed of at the earliest possible date.

There is no use in talking to you.
