Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Payments in Cork.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the last date for which the information is available the number of persons in Cork City, distinguishing between men and women, in receipt of unemployment insurance benefit.

The number of men and women residing in Cork City who received unemployment benefit last week was 765, made up of 430 men and 335 women.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the last date for which the information is available the number of persons in Cork City, distinguishing between men and women, in receipt of unemployment assistance benefit (a) at the rate of 10/6 per week, (b) at the rate of 20/- per week, (c) at the rate of 23/- per week, and (d) the total number of (1) men, and (2) women in receipt of unemployment assistance benefit.

Last week 816 men residing in Cork City received unemployment assistance at the rate of 10/6 per week; 61 men received payment at the rate of 20/- per week, and 78 received payment at the rate of 23/- per week. There were no women in receipt of unemployment assistance at any of the rates indicated. The total number of men and women in Cork City who received unemployment assistance last week was 1,978—made up of 1,689 men and 289 women.
