Vol. 92 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Fishing Season.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the late opening, April 1st, of the fishing season at the Cashin, Ballyduff, County Kerry, is a great disadvantage to the fishermen of the district; and, if so, whether he will now arrange to have the season opened a month earlier, i.e., on March 1st.

I am precluded from making any alteration in the close season for salmon fishing on a river unless it can be clearly shown (at a public inquiry) by the applicants for the change that the modification proposed is one tending towards the more effective protection and improvement of the fisheries in that river system as a whole.

If the fishermen concerned will submit a prima facie case for the holding of a public inquiry on the basis indicated, the matter will have prompt consideration.
