Vol. 92 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Means Test for Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is now prepared to receive a deputation from the City of Dublin Old-age Pensions Committee, as requested in their letter of 19th October, 1943, to enable them place before him details of the hardships imposed by the application of the means test in respect of old age and blind persons' pensions claims.

In view of the special measures which have been adopted to ease during the emergency the position of old age pensioners and blind persons in receipt of pensions, and bearing in mind the additional burden which these measures have imposed on the Exchequer, I must decline to agree to any variation of the means test at present in operation and I am, therefore, not prepared to receive a deputation, as proposed.
