Vol. 92 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Radio and Rural Community.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the fact that the radio is used as a medium for advertising concerts in Dublin for residents in the city, he will permit the same service to be used to advertise concerts and sports fixtures for the rural community.

It is not true to say that Radio Éireann announcements regarding items which are broadcast, including Radio Éireann orchestral concerts, are only for residents in Dublin. These announcements are by way of information for all listeners.

Occasional advance publicity is given to events of national importance such as the Oireachtas, All-Ireland Hurling and other sporting events of nationwide interest.

Purely sectional or private undertakings could, of course, not be advertised free of charge.
