Vol. 92 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nurses' Residence at Portlaoighise.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state if he has received any representations from the County Manager for Leix-Offaly re the provision of a nurses' residence to be erected convenient to the mental hospital at Portlaoighise; and, if so, if he will deal with the matter as one of urgency and sanction the erection of same.

The question of providing a nurses' residence convenient to the mental hospital at Portlaoighise has been raised with my Department, but no indication has been given as to how the joint committee propose to meet the cost. Grants amounting to over £70,000 were made to Portlaoighise Hospital from the Hospitals Trust Fund for special works carried out at the hospital and the present commitments of the fund would not permit of any further allocations being now made. The views of the local authority are being invited as to the financing of the project.
