Vol. 92 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Sewerage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has received proposals for a sewerage scheme for the town of Ballindine, County Mayo, and if he will state (1) the estimated cost of the proposed scheme; (2) the area of charge affected thereby; (3) the cause of delay in having the proposed scheme approved of, and (4) the possibility of putting the scheme into operation during the present year.

Proposals were received in September last for an extension of an existing sewer at Ballindine at an estimated cost of £236. The area of charge proposed for the special expenses of the work has not been indicated. On the 25th September the local authority was requested to furnish certain particulars which were required before approval to the proposal could be accorded. The information has not yet been obtained so that I am not in a position to state when the work will be undertaken. The local authority are being asked as to the present position.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (1) whether a sewerage scheme for the town of Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, has been submitted for approval of his Department; (2) the estimated cost of the proposed scheme; (3) the area of charge affected by the scheme; and if the scheme has not received the approval of his Department if he will state if alternative proposals have been suggested by his Department.

Proposals for the provision of a sewerage scheme for Ballyhaunis at an estimated cost of £4,620 were submitted on the 28th October last. The documents relating to the proposed work were returned to the local authority on the 3rd January last with suggestions for re-consideration and amendment of the plans in certain respects. The amended plans have not yet been received.

The county manager intimated at the time that it was his intention to ask the county council to recommend the county health district of Mayo as the area of charge but no proposal in this matter has yet been received.
