Vol. 93 No. 7

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take the business on the Order Paper in the following order: Nos. 3, 2 and 4 (including Votes 32 to 62), then Nos. 1 and 5. Perhaps I should mention here that it is proposed to move a motion that the House sit until 10.30 p.m. to-night.

The Committee on Procedure and Privileges is meeting this afternoon to discuss generally the whole question of Parliamentary arrangements for the rest of this session.

Why not wait until they meet before making any change? How are we to get home?

How am I to get home next week, with no trains to Ballaghadereen, unless the Minister for Justice comes with me?

Mr. Lynch

Will the Minister say when it is proposed to introduce the Budget?

I hope to have the Budget ready for introduction by Wednesday, 3rd May.

Before the Recess, I raised a point as regards my motion in connection with wool prices, and I was promised by the Minister for Supplies that time would be given for the discussion of that motion when we met again. I want to annual the Emergency Powers Order fixing the price of wool. It came into effect on 1st April, and the wool will soon be on sale. I would ask the House to give permission for the discussion on that motion to-night.

That is a matter to be taken up with the Government Whips.

I took the matter up with Deputy Kissane, and he asked me to raise it with you to-day.

The good old game of passing the buck.

I am sure time can be arranged, but it would have to be fixed with the Government Whips. I cannot say what time would be convenient. The motion cannot be taken to-night.

Inherent in the whole emergency legislation passed by this House is an undertaking given by the Government that, if an Order was made to which a responsible Party objected, Government time would be provided to have a reasonable debate on whether the Order should be rescinded or not. Are we to take it, inasmuch as the Taoiseach is present, that that undertaking will be honoured, and that time will be given for Deputy Donnellan's motion?

It will be done.
