Vol. 93 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyporeen Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health what is the cause of the delay in building the 23 houses in Ballyporeen, passed by the South Tipperary Board of Health over 12 months ago; and if he will see that steps will be taken to have the building work started, in view of the great necessity there is for houses, having regard to insanitary accommodation which exists in the village.

In 1940, a scheme for the erection of 17 cottages was under consideration. Twelve of the sites were regarded as unsuitable, and alternative sites could not at that time be secured by agreement. Subsequently it was decided by the local authority not to proceed with the scheme owing to the increased cost of building materials. I understand further steps are now to be taken to acquire sites for the erection of houses.

My Department has not yet been furnished with details of that proposal.
