Vol. 94 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beet Loading Station.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the fact that practically 10,000 tons of beet have been produced from year to year in the district of Rathcoole, County Cork, and that there is a reasonable prospect of a similar quantity being raised this year, he will consider the desirability of asking the Great Southern Railways Company to erect a loading station at Rathcoole railway station, so that farmers in that locality may be in a position to get their beet delivered to the Mallow beet factory in the most economic way.

I understand that the Great Southern Railways Company have examined the question of providing a loading bank at Rathcoole, but that the proposal was not considered economic, having regard to the quantity of beet for loading, which is very much less than that suggested by the Deputy.
