Vol. 95 No. 1

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Harbour Fatality.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the basis on which a pension of 7/6 per week was fixed for Mrs. Catherine Duggan, 10 Bellevue Terrace, Cobh, County Cork, as compensation for the death of her husband, who was lost in Cork Harbour as a result of a collision between the "Irish Poplar" and pilot boat on 12th December, 1942, and whether, having regard to the inadequacy of the pension, he will have the case further considered.

Mrs. Catherine Duggan, 10 Bellevue Terrace, Cobh, has been granted an allowance of 7/6 per week under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of her husband. She is also in receipt of a pension of 10/- per week under the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts, and as a result of proceedings in the High Court against Irish Shipping, Ltd., the sum of £1,100 was awarded to her by way of compensation for her husband's death. The fact that she was in receipt of widows' pension was taken into consideration when the grant was made to her under the Army Pensions Acts.
