Vol. 95 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployed Miners.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that about 100 miners at Rossmore Colliery and 300 miners at the Swan Wolfhill Colliery are at present out of work; if he will state the cause of this grave position at the approach to winter, and if he will indicate the steps he is taking to remedy it and to have the out-of-work miners reabsorbed in coal production at once.

All the miners at the collieries mentioned in the question are, I understand, now back at work.

Would the Minister say why it was necessary for the company to lay off these miners?

The Deputy had better address that question to the company.

Has he any information on the subject?

No reliable information.

Was it not due to an accumulation of coal on the bank?

I again refer the Deputy to the company.
