Vol. 95 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscrea Meat Factory.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that 400 employees of the Roscrea Meat Factory have been disemployed, and if he will state the cause of this; and whether he can take any steps to have the cause removed and to have the factory reopened.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state if he has taken any steps towards the reopening of Roscrea Meat Factory; if he will also state the reasons for its closing, and when it is proposed to reopen it in view of the severe loss to the town of Roscrea.

I propose to answer questions Nos. 20 and 21 together.

The proprietors of the Roscrea Meat Factory have informed my Department that they have been obliged to close down temporarily owing to shortage of cans required for the packing of meat for export. Steps have already been taken with a view to accelerating deliveries of cans to the firm and it is hoped that they will shortly be in a position to resume their full activities.
