Vol. 95 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Censorship and Unemployment.

asked the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defensive Measures if he will state the reasons why the censorship has been exercised to prohibit all references in the daily or local newspapers to the grave state of unemployment existing at present in the collieries at The Swan, Wolfhill and Rossmore.

The news item referred to in the question was considered liable to cause misunderstanding concerning the position in respect of coal supplies, and was, consequently, prohibited publication.

In what way would the publication cause misunderstanding?

Well, it was considered that it would. It was quite obvious that it would.

Misunderstanding?

I suggest to the Minister that he should go to Wolfhill himself and see the conditions of the unemployed there.

I suggest that if the Deputy has a question to ask he should ask it.

I am extending an invitation to the Minister.

I see; it is a question of an invitation.
