Vol. 95 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dispensary for Clonsilla Area.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that there is no dispensary for Clonsilla and Mulhuddart area, and that the nearest dispensary is four miles away, and that the old people and people without bicycles in the area are obliged to take a bus into the city and then a bus to the dispensary at Lucan; and, in view of this, if he is prepared to have a dispensary provided for the Clonsilla and Mulhuddart area.

As explained to the Deputy on a previous occasion the provision of a dispensary is a matter primarily for the Commissioners for the Dublin Board of Assistance. I have been informed that no complaints had reached them and that they do not know of any cases of hardship. The superintendent assistance officers also reported to the commissioners that neither they nor the assistance officers had received any complaints on this matter. The area, though extensive, contains only a small number of persons who seek free medical assistance. It is understood that the average number of patients attending at Lucan from this area is about 12 a year.
