Vol. 95 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Medical Service.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether, with a view to rendering the School Medical Service more effective, especially in rural areas, he will introduce legislation to make the sanitation, cleaning, repair and renovation of schools a responsibility of the local sanitary authorities, through the county medical officers of health.

The reply is in the negative. I would remind the Deputy that certain powers are available to local authorities in pursuance of Sections 56 and 107 of the Public Health (Ireland) Act, 1878.
