Vol. 95 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Flooding.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that during the recent heavy rain four families at Ballygeary, County Wexford, sustained serious loss and hardship from the floods, their dwelling-houses and all their out-houses being under water; and if he will make a grant from the Special works Fund towards repairing the damage caused by the floods.

No representations have been received in this matter, but if the families concerned are landholders they may be eligible to receive assistance by way of grant from the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote towards the cost of improving the drainage of their property.

If the Deputy will forward full particulars to my Office I shall advise him as to whether, and under what conditions, the case may be considered for a grant from State funds.

I received a letter this morning from Mr. John Whitty, Kil-rane, telling me that from Ballygeary to Ballybrow there were 300 acres of arable land under water. That was never known to happen before. As far as I am aware it would not be a very big job to get the water off that land.
