Vol. 96 No. 23

Written Answer. - Army Officer's Discharge.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that Joseph Aherne of Croaghta Park, Glasheen Road, Cork, who was discharged from the Army on July 13th, 1942, with the rank of Captain and who was certified 100 per cent medically unfit, has received no gratuity in respect of his service; and, if so, and in view of the serious condition of this officer's health, if he will see that any gratuities due to him will be promptly paid.

A gratuity is not payable to ex-Captain Aherne under the provisions of the Defence Forces (Pensions) Scheme, 1937, in respect of his Army service. He is, however, in receipt of a disability pension at the rate of £183 6s. Od. per annum under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of his service during the emergency.
