Vol. 97 No. 20

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Home Assistance Officers—Additional Remuneration.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that home assistance officers in Dublin have been required to investigate applications made to the Department of Supplies by persons desirous of obtaining licences for the sale of fuel and, as a result of their investigations, to recommend the granting or rejection of the applications; and further that, although such investigations are outside the normal duties of the officers, they have not received any monetary compensation for them; and, if so, if he will consider recommending that such home assistance officers should be granted additional remuneration in respect of carrying out these duties.

The arrangements whereby a preliminary investigation would be made by assistance officers of applications to the Department of Supplies for licences for the sale of fuel were of an informal nature and were not submitted to my Department for approval. I am looking further into the matter and will communicate with the Deputy.
