Vol. 97 No. 20

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lansdowne Estate Tenants.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what is the position of tenants on the Lord Lansdowne estate which was purchased under the 1923 Land Act; if the tenants are paying annuities in the ordinary sense or are their payments interest in lieu of rent; and if the latter, when it is proposed to alter payments to annuities; and if this will entitle them to a reduction in their present contributions.

The holdings comprised in the Lansdowne estate became vested in the Land Commission on 1st May, 1931, the appointed day fixed pursuant to Section 9, Land Act, 1931. From that date the tenants became liable for payment of "annual sums" and these payments will count towards repayment of the annuities which will be set up on revesting of the holdings in the tenants. At this stage it is not possible to state when such revesting will take place.

The "annual sums" payable by the tenants were revised in accordance with the provisions of Part III of the Land Act, 1933. The revesting of the holdings in the tenants will not entitle them to any further reduction.
