Vol. 97 No. 20

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Estate Repairs.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state when he intends to carry out repairs to embankments on the following holdings:—R. Delaney, Tenant, R.O. No. A336C/18 Ashtown Estate; Michael Kearney, Tenant, R.O. No. A336C/112 Ashtown Estate; Katherine Kearney, Tenant, R.O. No. A336B/67 Ashtown Estate; Michael McGrath, R.O. No. 103/622 Folio No. 2006, and the lands of De Loughtane, in or near Clashmore, County Waterford, where repairs were not completed.

The Land Commission have under consideration representations received regarding repairs required to works in order to prevent erosion and flooding by the River Nier of the holdings of Richard Delaney, Ballymakee; Michael Kearney, Deer-park; Mrs. Katherine Kearney, Craggane, and others on the Ashtown Estate, County Waterford. Inquiries are being made to ascertain the nature of the repairs required, and to determine the action, if any, which can be taken. The repair of the embankments on the holding of Michael McGrath, at Ballyheeny, Clashmore, is a matter for the tenant concerned, and the Land Commission do not propose to take any action in this case. No further work is proposed at De Loughtane, near Clashmore, where previous attempts to close the breaches in the River Blackwater embankments have not proved successful.
