Vol. 97 No. 20

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol Supplies.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that on several occasions there has been a shortage of petrol in Rush, although coupons have been forwarded to the oil companies; and, if so, whether in view of the large number of lorries in the Rush areas which are engaged in the haulage of foodstuffs to the Dublin markets, he will take steps to ensure that there is not a recurrence of this petrol shortage.

I am not aware that on several occasions there has been a shortage of petrol in Rush. I understand that, due to the accumulation of orders at the end of the month, there was some slight delay in delivery of petrol by the oil distributing companies at the end of May, including an order from one motor spirit retailer in Rush. I am not aware that there has been any recurrence of this delay.

Did the Minister say he was not aware?

That is what I said.

Did the Minister not get at least two reports from me?

I am aware that one motor spirit retailer in Rush experienced a slight delay in obtaining supplies.

Is the Minister aware that there are 50 or 60 lorries in Rush engaged in the daily haulage of vegetables to the Dublin market and that it is a very serious inconvenience to these people to find they cannot get petrol?

There is more than one retailer in Rush.

There are two and that has happened to the two.
