Vol. 101 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Surplus Milk.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether large quantities of surplus milk accumulate spasmodically in Dublin during the summer season; and to what extent and in what manner such surpluses are used.

A surplus of milk is produced in the Dublin production district only during the heavy producing months, principally May and June. The extent of the surplus is estimated to be approximately 7½ per cent. of production, and is disposed of to confectionery manufacturers.

Does that mean that no waste occurs?

No; it is all taken.

Could the Minister state when the report of the inquiry that was held recently into the milk situation in Dublin will be published?

I would advise the Deputy to put a question to the Minister for Local Government on that.
