Vol. 101 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Longford Turf Bank.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Mr. James Foley, Moydow, Longford, was a tenant of a turf bog in Curry Bog on the King Harman estate which has been taken over by the Land Commission; that when Mr. Foley applied in the usual course for a bank when they were being let this year he was refused, with the result he has no turf cut for himself and his family; and if he will state whether, in view of the campaign for the production of more fuel, he will reconsider his decision in the matter.

Mr. Boland

My information is that no applicant has been refused a turbary letting on Curry Bog and that there is ample turbary available there for letting.

I am aware, Sir, that the Minister has been misinformed in this matter. This man has been refused a turf bank in this bog where he has been cutting turf for the past 15 years. I am not satisfied with the position. I do not want to raise this question on the adjournment but at the same time I would like to go into it a little more fully.

If the Deputy has any further questions to ask he may do so but he must not make a speech. Have you any further questions to ask?

The subject matter of Questions Nos. 15 and 16 have an important bearing on each other and, because of the unsatisfactory nature of the Minister's reply to both of those questions, I propose to raise them on the adjournment.

Are the questions related?

Yes, they are.

On the adjournment then Questions Nos. 15 and 16.

Even in view of the pending legislation, Sir?
