Vol. 101 No. 12

Supplementary Estimate. - Vote 31—Fisheries (Supplementary).

I move:—

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £7,500 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending 31st March, 1947, for salaries and expenses in connection with Sea and Inland Fisheries, including a Grant-in-Aid, for a payment on account of compensation and for a contribution towards certain law costs.

I explained this before.

Is the Minister going to give us any particulars as to how these additional law costs arose?

It has been discussed with the other Estimate.

I remember the case very well, because this originally arose in South Donegal when I represented that constituency.

It was discussed already.

On the main Estimate?

May I ask, on this Supplementary Estimate, were the persons, Moore and others, who had a proprietary right in this, satisfied that the ultimate settlement was made and does this represent a mutually agreed settlement of the claims outstanding?

Not a final settlement.

They have agreed to take this on account but it is understood, as I explained already, that when the arbitrator under the 1939 Act will give his award on, let us say, two or three fisheries, then we will be able to estimate what they would have got under the 1939 Act. This is ex gratia.

And their claim will be reconsidered?

It will.

That is fair enough.

Vote put and agreed to.
