Vol. 102 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Confectionery Trade—Sugar Allocations.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that flour confectionery businesses have recently been started, in Dublin and elsewhere, by persons who were not engaged in this business in 1940-1941; and if he will state why sugar allocations have been made in such cases while old established firms are unable to get sufficient sugar for their ordinary confectionery trade requirements.

There has been no general departure from the policy of restricting allowances of sugar for making flour confectionery for sale to persons who were engaged in that business when sugar rationing was brought into operation. Exceptions have, however, been made in favour of persons demobilised from the Defence Forces after service during the emergency and in one other case where exceptional circumstances obtained.
