asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state, in respect of the year ended 30th June, 1946, the number of cases in which payment of widows' pensions was withdrawn; and the number of cases in which the amount of pension payable was reduced.

The number of cases in which payment of widows' pensions was terminated during the year ended 30th June, 1946, was 4,262. Of this number, 3,085 pensions ceased because the pensioners either died or attained 70 years of age. 377 pensions were terminated because of increases in net weekly means.

The number of cases in which payment was reduced was 3,559. Of this number, 3,076 pensions were reduced because the dependent children had died, left school, or attained age 16. 266 pensions were reduced because of increases in net weekly means.

During the same period 4,028 widows' pensions were awarded and 590 were increased.
