Vol. 103 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Insurance Acts: Appropriations-in-Aid.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether paragraphs 6, 7 and 8 of the Regulation number 1854 of 1921, made in respect of appropriations-in-aid under the Unemployment Insurance Acts, are still in force; if they have been revoked, whether he will state (a) the date on which they were so revoked, and (b) the nature of the regulations by which they were replaced, further, the last period in respect of which the calculations required by paragraph 7 of these regulations were made; and the nature of the certificate made, under paragraph 8, in relation to such calculations.

The regulations referred to in the first part of the question were revoked on the 11th November, 1946. The position is now governed by (a) the Unemployment Insurance (Appropriations-in-Aid) Regulations, 1946, made by me on that date, and (b) a direction given by me, pursuant to Section 12 (3) of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, that the maximum sum permitted by law should be applied out of the Unemployment Fund as an appropriation-in-aid of moneys provided by the Oireachtas for the purposes mentioned in the proviso to that section. The calculations mentioned in paragraph 7 of the earlier regulations were never made and no certificate was given under paragraph 8.
