Vol. 104 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ammunition for Firing Parties.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state what arrangements there are in County Wexford for making rifles and ammunition available to Old I.R.A. associations for use by firing parties; and if he is satisfied that these arrangements are suitable.

Subject to the approval of the local Gárda authorities, officers commanding commands are authorised to issue rifles and ammunition for funeral honours at the burials of deceased members of the Old I.R.A. and kindred organisations. Military transport may be used to convey the rifles and escort on the understanding that, by making the rifles and ammunition available from the nearest military post, the minimum expense will be occasioned to the State.

I am satisfied that these arrangements, which have proved to be satisfactory for a number of years, are suitable.
