Vol. 104 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tea and Sugar for Catering Establishments.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that many small catering establishments were denied allowances of tea and sugar because they were not registered at a certain date; that now that the rationing of bread is in force, if he will cause such establishments to register so that they may obtain supplies of tea, sugar and bread for their customers; also, if he is aware that such establishments cater principally for country people attending fairs and markets.

In consequence of the limited supplies of tea and sugar available, it was necessary to restrict allowances of these commodities for catering purposes to establishments that were in existence when rationing of tea and sugar was brought into operation. There has been no such development in the supply position of either of these commodities as would warrant any modification of this policy. Allowances of bread are being made to catering establishments which are in receipt of tea and sugar allocations.
