Vol. 104 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Huts.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of military huts not now required by the Defence Forces; if he will arrange to have such huts placed at the disposal of local authorities who are engaged in the production of turf, or in whose area turf is being produced so as to enable them to provide shelter at bogs for their employees, and also at the disposal of private producers who, while carrying out such work, are exposed to all weathers.

There are at present 46 sectional timber huts of the standard type which are not now required by the Defence Forces but which must be offered to other Government Departments before they can be regarded as surplus to requirements. Those not required by other Departments will be sold to those local authorities or State-sponsored concerns who apply for them. The balance will then be offered for sale on a competitive basis to the public generally.
