Vol. 104 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Passenger Traffic on Railways.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the provisions made for passenger traffic between Dublin and Cork on the present restricted rail service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state for what reason no provision is made for passenger traffic between Dublin and Galway, similar to that provided between Dublin and Cork, under the present restricted rail service; and if he will take steps to see that similar provision is made between Dublin and Galway.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 6 and 7 together. Limited passenger accommodation is provided on certain trains between Dublin and Cork which are run primarily for mails and perishable traffic. I am informed that the quantity of perishable traffic and mails for Galway would not justify the operation of a similar service from Dublin beyond Athlone. There is a bus service daily to and from Galway. I understand that it has been possible so far to accommodate all the passengers wishing to travel by this service.
