Vol. 105 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Superannuation Schemes for Manual Workers.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will now state when it is proposed to introduce proposals for legislation to enable local authorities to formulate and implement superannuation schemes for road workers, manual workers and others not covered, at present, by the existing superannuation schemes operated by the local authorities.

It is hoped to have the Bill ready for introduction at an early date.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that his Minister stated at the end of January that it was hoped to have this Bill introduced in a week or two and will the Parliamentary Secretary say what has occurred to delay the implementation of the promise given to this House by the Minister?

Certain unexpected difficulties arose in connection with the drafting of the Bill, but it is hoped to have it ready within a short period, if possible, next session.
