Vol. 105 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Bus Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that while two buses formerly left Galway for Dublin each day, one at 8.30 a.m. and one at 12.30 p.m., the service is now restricted to one bus leaving at 8.30 a.m.; that, as no bus travels in from Connemara in time to make this connection, persons travelling from Connemara to Dublin are compelled to spend a night in Galway; and if, to obviate this unnecessary expense and inconvenience, he will direct Córas Iompair Eireann to restore the 12.30 p.m. bus from Galway to Dublin.

I am informed by Córas Iompair Eireann that the bus which was formerly used to provide a second service on weekdays from Galway to Dublin has been used since November last to provide a daily service between the Eyrecourt-Portumna area and Galway. An additional vehicle is not available at present and a second daily service from Galway to Dublin could only be provided by depriving the people of the Eyrecourt area of their only public transport service.
