Vol. 105 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballinamore Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the public water supply in Ballinamore, County Leitrim, is unsatisfactory and inadequate; that water is available to residents on the higher levels of the town for only a few hours each day; and if he will take immediate steps to improve this supply.

I am not aware that the water supply a Ballinamore is unsatisfactory and inadequate. The scheme was completed in 1937 at a cost of £6,300 and was designed to deliver 30,000 gallons daily, representing 35 gallons per head of the population.

A complaint was addressed to my Department in July, 1945, to the effect that a section of the town was receiving water during portion of the day only. On inquiry it was learnt that the limited allocation of fuel oil then available for pumping was not sufficient to supply the higher levels continuously. The allocation of oil was subsequently increased, and no further representations in regard to the matter have been addressed to me.
