Vol. 106 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blacksmiths' Coal.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he can now improve supplies of coal for black— smiths.

Coal supplies to blacksmiths may be expected to improve on the delivery of better quality coal from the U.S.A.

Does that mean that the quantity will be increased or the quality improved—which, or both?

An improvement in quality rather than in quantity. So far as blacksmiths are concerned, they have been allocated a quantity of coal which should be sufficient for their work, if of the right quality.

Does the Minister appreciate that because of the difficulty in securing agricultural implements we have to try to keep old agricultural implements going beyond their normal life and this entails much more repair work? For that reason, a great many blacksmiths are finding it impossible to do the repairs.

The complaint of blacksmiths has been in regard to the quality of coal they are getting.

Both quality and quantity.

I think quality. With the delivery of better quality coal from the U.S.A. they can expect an improvement.

Question No. 4.

I merely wish to point out, Sir——

Question No. 4 has been called. There will have to be some fixed rule in the matter.

I want to make it clear to the Minister that the quantity is not enough.
