asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a considerable amount of fruit was wasted last year because of the scarcity of sugar; and whether, in view of the increased quantities of sugar now available, he will make provision for the allocation of sugar to private householders for jam-making this year, thereby eliminating the fruit wastage.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sugar for Jam-making.
asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the improved sugar supply, he will consider granting an allocation of sugar for the making of home-made jam.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 6 and 7 together. The supplies of sugar available are not sufficient to enable a special allocation to be granted for the purpose of making home-made jam. Increased allowances of sugar are, however, being made this year, as in previous years, to jam manufacturers to enable them to use suitable home-grown fruit.
