Vol. 108 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import of Grain.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the amount of wheat seed imported for the sowing season 1946-47; the amount of oats and barley imported, for seed, in the same period; and also the price paid for all such seeds.

Five hundred and seventy-five tons of seed wheat were imported from Sweden last season, at a landed cost of £5 5s. 0d. per barrel. Five thousand tons of seed oats were imported from Great Britain, at an average landed cost of approximately £25 14s. 6d. per ton. Thirty-five barrels of seed barley were imported from Sweden for experimental purposes at a landed cost of £3 8s. 10d. per barrel.

Very small quantities of seed wheat were imported last season from Great Britain, but I am unable to furnish particulars of the prices paid for such imports.
