Vol. 108 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Marine Works (Donegal).

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that, along the Donegal coast, a number of minor marine works, e.g., the erection and repair of slips and landing-stages for fishing boats, has been inspected in the last few years; that plans and estimates were prepared; and if he will state when it is proposed to undertake these very necessary works.

A number of proposals for minor marine works in Donegal has been inspected within the past few years, and of these a considerable proportion has already been executed. Grants have been sanctioned for three further schemes—at Bunbeg, Rutland Island and Meenacladdy—and it is hoped to have these works put in hands at an early date. The work at Bunbeg has been held up by the necessity for clearing the title to portion of the site and wayleave.

Apart from these cases, a number of others is waiting inspection or the preparation of plans, but the marine engineering staff of my office is fully engaged at present on surveys and plans in connection with proposals for major harbours—including some in County Donegal—and it is not possible to say when the outstanding proposals for minor works will be dealt with.
