Vol. 109 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Ross Water and Sewerage System.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the present water supply and sewerage system in New Ross, County Wexford, is inadequate; and if he will state what steps are being taken to have them improved.

Proposals for the carrying out of improvements to the New Ross water supply have been received in my Department, and the council were informed in September last that the consulting engineer should prepare plans for the provision of a new service reservoir as the first stage of the proposed improvement works. It has also been recommended that meanwhile a series of tests of the existing main should be carried out. A waste water survey had been recommended in the preliminary report of the consulting engineer in order to establish definitely the extent of the improvements needed.

Preliminary plans have also been received for the completion of the new sewerage scheme for the town, the first stage of which was carried out in 1942. It will not be possible, however, to undertake these works until the water supply improvements have been effected.
